Throughout Year 8 and Year 9 students are taught by separate subject specialists both in mixed ability and in set classes. We group by ability in Maths, Science and French and students are taught in smaller groups in Design Technology.
In the “Upper School” students have a great range of courses to choose from including a full range of GCSEs and rich range of vocational courses.
It is our intention to treat students as young adults and we work hard to make sure they all leave school, ready for the next stage of their learning, with the best possible qualifications. In Year 11 students come to school dressed in a way “suitable for the workplace”.
It is the School's policy that Years 10 and 11 should follow a balanced curriculum and not over-specialise in certain areas. However, we also recognise the value of allowing students discretion in the choice of subjects they study. The option system is carefully designed to balance these two requirements. All courses lead to GCSE or equivalent qualifications.
The current allocation of lessons in Year 7 over a two-week timetable cycle is:
Subject Periods
TEAM includes English, Humanities, Science, Citizenship, Drama and ICT 28
Maths 6
Design Technology 4
French 4
P.E. 4
